I recently purchased a new J/80 and the previous owner did not carry a portable toilet on board. Does anyone have advice on type and where to store/secure it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a porta on board which I keep aft on the quarter berth. I never have used it in 4 years. If I had the guts, Iwould cut out part of the quarterberth and slide it into the space and secure it. That way it would stop banging around and would remaing stationary while being used.
Also if you could hold it until the porta is on the windward side, you would get a tiny bit of privacy

I have a Sanipottie portable head that I wedge between the quarterberth and the cockpit support post just aft of the companionway ladder (I wedge a storage bin on the other side of the post). It stays put but requires removal of the ladder to access, just slide it out by the handle. I must admit I have never used it but others have. Once you pull it out, you can leave it out and use it as a step down in lieu of the ladder.

With respects to the English, wouldn't that be "as a step down in loo of the ladder"?
