Does anyone race a J/80 in MORC? I'm just wondering how it rates, and how competitive it is under MORC rules as opposed to PHRF.

Derek, I dare say that most j80s sail one design or PHRF at 120 with class jib or 117 with 140 jib. I would like to know where you sail so we may try to hook you up with the closest fleet if possible.

I don't think there is a fleet close to me. I live in canada around 50 miles north of Detroit at the southern tip of lake Huron. Hopefully when we are passing undercrewed big boats they will consider buying J/80's so we can get a fleet up here... ha ha. As far as I know we are the only J/80 in the area.

I race my J80 in Bahrain, Middle East. We are class-alone and race against a mixed fleet on IRC handicap (measurement based), previously on RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Handicap (performance based). We get hammered on handicap, but it's a lot of fun finishing first on the water, although it's tough to sail the lead all the time. Likewise, I wish others would get into the J80 'groove' - but I don't think that's going to happen around here. But flying past a bigger race-machine like they're standing still is a blast.
