My motor mount failed this weekend. Ordered a new one from APS, but after preliminary inspection it seems only 2 of the screws are exposed to replacement. The lower 2 a mystery. Anyone have any experience they could share ? I'd hate to loose a new motor.

I just replace my gudgeons due to wear and I had to cut an access hole in the transom. I believe you will have to do the same thing to get to the lower screws on the motor mount.

Wow that is bad news ;-(. Did you install an Deck plate ( access port ) ? If so how big ? I just can't believe that part of the boat isn't accessible.

what motor mount did you have and what are you replacing with. Ours the motor clamps to the transom. The vibration of the motor vibrates the whole boat.

can you post photos?

I have the standard J24 mount. I like it, but why expose 2 of 4 screws, that's just nutty. Decided to cut an access port in the transom. Spoke to waterline , they said it was a design flaw in TPI boats *sigh*. Wish me luck cutting a 4 1/2 inch hole in the transom. I dread it...

I installed the Hall mt with the top bolts sitting in the middle of the existing pad and the lower bolts accessible through the existing inspection port. The in board side was tough to put the fender washer and nylock nut on, but doable with a skinny arm. I also put a rubber gasket material behind the mt to dampen some 2 stk engine vibrations.

Does anyone know the max weight APS hall motor mount can take ? Was wondering if the 4 hp merc was too much especially in rough weather. Want to step up to a honda 5, but that's an extra 5-10 lbs . Anyone have an suggestions ? 2 strokes are hard to find and loud. mercs (and all the re-branded merc-a-likes) are less than agreeable motors .. Honda was all I could think about for reliability.

I've been using the APS mount with a 4HP Yamaha for 3 years with no problems.

Evan,
Sorry to be a bit late with the correction, but your Honda should do just fine.
