During the SF winter rainy season, there is always water down below after a storm. Mostly at the base of the mast, but after big rains it extends all the way into the side storage compartments and the back area.

At most, its three buckets of sponging after each rain, so not a huge deal. But its a pain and I'd like to fix it.

Is this normal? Anything I can do to prevent it?

Not sure it's the same problem but I had a similar mystery with water in the bilge area. While prepping for winter storage just happened to have the bow sprit well tarped and found the water problem went away. G'luck.

My J80 always takes on water through the mast.
Here are the sources not necesarily in order of importance
1. It wicks in through the halyards
2. It runs down the mast track
3. It comes in through the boot
Fortunately the design does not allow water to accumulate anywhere, it all goes to the bilge.
Water in the side storage compartments can only come from above, either the main hatch or the portlight.
I need to pump the bilges during and after storms.
