I'm looking for information about symetric spinnakers on a J80.
Did someone have info about that? Size of deck gear and where to put it, how to fit the topping lift on the mast...
Thanks for your help, pictures would be great as well!

The Irish Sailing Assn uses symmetric kites on their fleet of J80s ... -J80s.aspx

I bet if you contacted them, they be able to give you all you need. From what I've heard they're a pretty good bunch.

I believe that JWorld Annapolis has a boat set up that way as well. Ask for Jeff, tell him that Brian Robinson suggested that you talk to him.

Jworld San Diego has J80's configured with a symmetrical spinnaker as well.

While sailing in a J World boat with a symmetrical rig, the mast ring came off. So I suggest you figure out something other than aluminum pop rivets to connect it on to the mast.

About spinnaker ring attachment to mast, what brand of spinnaker eye or ring is used? I have a Hall Spar Section 128 and the Forespare and Ronstan spi eyes will not fit. I've looked at using a spi eye part from discontinued Harken spin car (Har 780 or 781). Rick at Harken advised it's Harken Part HCP325 listing for $39.90. Anyone tried this or a Sparcraft spi eye? Thanks, Bill

Thanks for your help, I've now figured out the deck gear but I'm still a bit worried about drilling a hole in the mast for the topping lift and I get no information about that.
For the eye i was thinking of Sparcraft pop rivets. Did someone have an other solution?
