We've been using it for about 6 months and it works great as long as the crew remembers to un-park the cleat prior to a drop.

Thanks Randy , any chance you could share info on how you installed it ? can't you unpark from the cockit, it looked that by pulling from there it would unpark... No ?

That's right, install it on the mast. It allows you to hoist from the mast and temporarily cleat halyard on mast. After the hoist you can pull the halyard through the cabin top cleat from the cockpit and it will unpark. If there is alot of pressure from strong wind you may have to put haylard on a winch to get the cleat on mast to unpark but not usually a problem.

So the concept with this "parker" is to allow you to control that halyard from the cockpit, and not always only from the mast? Particularly for take downs? - so you don't have to send someone to the mast?

When attaching the fitting to the mast, do you use sheet mettle screws or tap it for a #10 screw?

we installed the parking cleat using 10-32 machine screws. we tapped the mast and set the cleat slightly offset from the direct line between the block on the bottom of the mast and the exit hole.

We also used Locktight to lock the threads in place.

We did this for 2 reasons. First the positioning on the mast that would have been in line was on a section of the mast that was too curved for the fitting to sit right. Second the offset makes it easier to uncleat the parker from the cockpit while the sail is still under a load.



We love the new process of setting the sail but sometimes forget to uncleat the parker when we flake the halyard to prepare it for lowering...we'll just have to work on that.<img src="http://j80.org/discus/messages/6/918.jpg" alt="Wasaaabi at Huntington Lake">

Interesting we just got it installed a few weeks ago and in our expierience it's nearly impossible to release loaded from the cockpit, How high did you install it ?

We installed it using the two holes from the original cleat that was there, about six inches below the exit from the mast and slightly forward. We have not had any problem snapping it out from the cockpit. (see picture)
