Here is the proposal for the 2006 Worlds. I spoke to Jeff Johnstone and all indications are that the Worlds will be held in Corpus Christi. If you are attending the 05 Worlds in England please talk to Glen Darden or Jay Lutz about the site and sailing conditions. We look forward to seeing all of you in 06

J 80

Corpus Christi Bay
Corpus Christi, Texas
United States of America

July 15-July 22, 2006

Hosted by:

Corpus Christi Yacht Club
98 Cooper’s Alley
Corpus Christi, Texas, USA 78401

Venue: Corpus Christi Yacht Club wishes to respectfully request the honor to host the 2006 J 80 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Corpus Christi, Texas, U.S.A., from July 15 through July 22, 2006.

Corpus Christi Yacht Club has hosted major one design regattas in the past, including the 2002 IODA Optimist World Championship with 45 countries in attendance, the 2002 J-22 Worlds, the 2003 Laser North Americans, the 1999 Optimist North American Championship and the 1999 505 North American Championship. Corpus Christi was sought after for these venues because of the reliability of the wind, the wind blows until about 0400, that’s right 4:00 a.m.! Our sea breeze continues through the night. So in the rare chance you do not have wind at 1200, the wind will be blowing at 1500 and on through the evening. There is virtually no chance of not racing on any given day. In addition to our wind, we have great Texas hospitality!

The dates for the Worlds have changed due to a hotel conflict. We are now scheduled for July 8-15 with 3 days for registration and measurement and 4 days for racing. We are planning 10 races for the regatta. Current plan is to start races at noon or 1PM so the seabreeze can develope. In the next couple of months CCYC will have a online weather station.

You can use this link for weather until the CCYC site is up and running.
