Texoma Sailing Club is delighted to be hosting a J/80 1D class at Lakefest Regatta this year.

Dates are April 17-19

For 2009 we'll have a dedicated One Design course for the J/80s and Melges 24s, and you guys will have your own (free) crane for haul out on Sunday.

Registration is $150. There will be daily awards for the J/80s every afternoon at the Texoma Sailing Club clubhouse (with drinks and live music daily after racing). Free coffee and donuts every morning. There's at sailor's cocktail reception / dinner Friday night, plus we're planning what we hope to be another epic (like the good old days) party Saturday night with dinner, probably two bands (one of which will be a fairly big name), free beer, and a silent auction.

Did I mention Free Beer?

O.K. Lets hear from the Southern Circuit Fleet Captains. Is Texoma going to be on the 2009 Circuit? Having 2 cranes makes the event more user friendly. May consider making this a two day event? I will give the "Nasty Boys" a hard time if we do not go. Is there any other feedback for this event? Hope all will attend.

Sounds good to me, I love free beer and live music, Lickety Split will try and be there, if it is a stop...

North American champion Tiamo has already signed up and it sounds like the Fort Worth Boat Club J/80s are coming. At last "verbal" count, we should have more than a dozen 80s on the starting line.

Should be an outstanding group.

Correction:

This morning, I sent out a notice that the PRO for the J/80s at Lakefest was going to be Gary Witt. While Gary will still be on the J/80 course, the PRO is going to be US Sailing Regional Race Officer (out of San Diego, CA) Wayne Coulon.

Wayne is a former US Sailing Sailor of the Week and was on RC for the 1992 and 1995 Louis Vuitton Cups. From USSailing.com:

"When Wayne shows up to do his race committee job, sailors know everything is taken care of. He not only serves as a principal race officer at some very high level regattas, he also brings his own 42-foot powerboat and all the equipment necessary to run a top-notch event. His boat wasn’t required at his most recent gig, the MEXORC held in Puerto Vallarta. Wayne said serving as deputy race officer at the 7-day buoy and distance-race regatta was a welcome escape from all the current stresses back at home. He stuck around for two extra days to help teach a race management course. He also helped with the PHRF ratings at MEXORC, using his experience as past president of PHRF in San Diego where he revitalized the rating by restructuring the process and rewriting the rules."
