St Petersburg NOOD 2006

Rumor wins it all.

With a result that gives fabulous exposure to the class, the team on Rumor won the overall trophy at the Landís End St Pete NOOD.They were judged the best boat in the regatta by getting three bullets in three races.Congratulations to John Storck and his crew.

It wasnít all wonderful though. The race committee was only able to get us out and racing on Saturday.Friday we all sat at the dock until the middle of the afternoon.

Jahn Tihansky felt bad for everyone because he had his JWorld teams down a few days before practicing and they used up all the air.Because of that, he and his coaches put on a special clinic for everyone who wanted to attend. They turned out to be more popular than the Olympics at the bar.For several hours, they went over rig tune and boat handling and answered questions.I think that everyone walked away with something.

Saturday came and we were all able to get out.In the first race, the committee set a 3 leg course with .75 mile legs. They like everyone else just wanted to get races in. Everyone also seemed to have wanted the right hand side of the course. So much so that it was very difficult to find clear air. When then fleet arrived at the leeward mark, there was an Ultimate 20 stuck on it towing it back up the course. The first 3 boats (Rumor, The Office and Bear Instinct got around before the mark boat had a chance to remedy the situation. Most everyone else had to round the mark boat.Rumor won with The Office and Bear Instinct hot on their tail.

Race two and three had the breeze up a little and steadier throughout the course. This time, it seemed like the left side was paying off.Rumor once again won both races but they were challenged by Angry Chameleon, Bear Instinct and Vamanos who all kept the races very close. At the end of the day, we had boats 2-5 separated by 6 points, 2 each.

Sunday came and the RC sent us out in dense fog and no wind. They had us wait around rafted up for several hours until it became apparent to everyone that there were going to be no more races.Everyone sprinted for home, got the boats out of the water, packed up and headed for the next venue, Charleston Race Week.
